FAQ

What is a hand poked tattoo?

Hand poked tattooing (aka stick n poke) is a manual method of tattooing that involves the use of a sterilized needle to insert ink into the skin by hand. It's a traditional, time-honored technique that offers a unique and often more intimate tattooing experience.

Is hand poke tattooing safe?

Yes, when performed using proper sterilization techniques and practicing strict hygiene standards. Your health and safety will always be prioritized! If you feel uncomfortable, uneasy, or light-headed at any point during your session, please let me know asap.

Do hand poked tattoos hurt more than machine tattoos?

Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but hand poked tattoos tend to be less painful due to a slower and gentler process. Many clients find the experience to be more comfortable, and some even find it to be therapeutic.

How long does it take to get a hand poked tattoo?

The duration depends on the size and complexity of the design. Small, simple designs may take an hour or less, while larger, more intricate pieces can take several hours or multiple sessions. The time it takes to review and make any necessary changes to your design, as well as time for stencil placement should also be considered.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Get a good night's sleep, eat something beforehand, and stay well-hydrated. Avoid excessive alcohol or caffeine intake before your appointment, and make sure to wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area. If you know the exact placement of your tattoo, feel free to gently shave or trim the area beforehand (just try to avoid any nicks!)

Do you offer custom designs in addition to your available flash?

Yes! I love bringing your concepts to life. Just shoot me a message describing what you had in mind, ideal size + placement, and any reference photos (IG DM, email, or the contact form all work). Please note, I will NOT tattoo another artist’s work unless there is written permission from the artist. I may also turn down your custom request if it is something that is out of my scope or involves any sort of hate symbols, speech, etc.

Are your flash designs repeatable?

Most flash is non-repeatable unless otherwise mentioned. You can check out my available flash under the ‘Flash’ highlight reels on my IG. Flash designs can be tweaked slightly if you would like.

How do I care for my hand poked tattoo after the session?

Detailed aftercare instructions will be provided via email after your appointment, which typically include keeping your new tattoo clean, applying an appropriate ointment, and avoiding sun exposure, swimming, and tight clothing during the healing process.

How long is the healing process and what can be expected?

Healing times vary, but most hand poked tattoos take about 2-4 weeks to fully heal. It is essential to follow the aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing. Since all bodies are different, your healing process will be unique to you and how your body responds to this sudden change. A healed tattoo will naturally change over time, so enjoy this beautiful process! Touch-ups are offered free of charge.

How can I book an appointment?

You can fill out the contact form on my website, email (kait.hartman11@gmail.com), or send me a DM on IG. A $50 non-refundable deposit will be required to secure your spot. I understand that life can get in the way of plans, so if you need to reschedule, please give me a heads up 48 hours prior to your appointment time to find a better time that works. If you need to reschedule more than once, your deposit will be forfeited and a new deposit will be required. I prefer Venmo, but Zelle works too! My Venmo is @kait-hartman.

What’s your pricing?

Custom design pricing depends on size, complexity, and placement. I’ll provide an estimate in advance, but pricing may change once the final details are established and your new tattoo is finished. Flash designs are flat rate and range anywhere between $100-$300. I’ll try to add pricing to my flash sheets going forward, but if you see something you like without a pre-determined price, just shoot me a message :)
